These days it seems like there are more #plugins available than ever before, but how many of them do we really need? Do we risk overdoing it? I've been on the verge of less being more for a few years now. My DAW of choice is Cakewalk Sonar, and I can't help but wonder whether there's a point at which we should stop. After all, too many plugins can slow our DAW right down, so it's not as if there are no downsides to this. But for now, I'm sticking with "less is more," at least for myself. I...

In this episode, we highlight another free plugin from ‪TokyoDawnRecords‬ the Molotok. This VST compressor is a must-have. It's straightforward and effective to use. In this episode, we review the FetCB by Analog Obsession. Guess what? It's free! We like to take time out and give back good-quality hardware that doesn't break the bank. But don't take our word for it. Check it out yourself. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this.

In this episode, we are going to review the free plugin, Warmy EP1A by Kiive Audio. This tube EQ is a great addition to your mix bus. It can eliminate the need for multiple saturation plugins at the end of your mix bus. We had a great time trying it out and think it's a keeper. But don't take our word for it. Check it out for yourself and see what you think!

In this episode, we explore a free VST plugin called XTMax by Kiive Audio. XTMax is a vintage analog compressor that is simply amazing. If you're looking for a compressor that can add warmth and punch to your tracks, XTMax is definitely worth checking out.

In this episode of "Not Just Music," Duan shares the history and origins of the Fula Flute. Since it's an African instrument, it seemed only natural to incorporate it into this month's Black History Month topic. As Duan explains, the Fula Flute is traditionally played by Fula shepherds, who use it to communicate with each other over long distances. Duan demonstrates what the Fula Flute sounds like and shows us how to use it in music production. There are several interesting techniques he shares,...

This week on Not Just Music Podcast, we’re shining a light on Scott’s Rosenwald School. The Rosenwald Schools were schools for black children in the late 1800s and early 1900s, when segregation was the law of the land. Scott’s Rosenwald was located in Iredell County, North Carolina, but there’s not a lot of history available about it. We still want to raise awareness about this important part of our past and hope that someone can come forward with more information. Our goal at Not Just Music Pod...

In this episode, we dive into the complex and often misunderstood topic of fatherhood and parenting. The history of the Black Father has been distorted and we're here to challenge that narrative. We will discuss the good and the bad of fatherhood, with a focus on being better communicators and making sure we're always present in our children's lives. No more excuses, let's get to the real talk.
